We are just outside of NYC in Westchester County. Our bookkeeper has just given notice. We are just getting into C&P (5 months in) and need a person 2 days a week. Do any of you know anyone or have any advice on how to manage the work during our search? Have you had better luck training people on C&P or looking for someone with C&P experience? If training was the option, did one kind of prior software knowledge (Peachtree, QuickBooks) help more than another in terms of that transition? I appreciate all of your input. Thanks in advance.

If you have paid for the C&P support I don't think you need to worry about finding someone with prior C&P experience. The C&P manuals are very easy to understand and are laid out very nicely. There is also the C&P tutorial and online support. If you need to call the C&P help desk they are very knowledgeable and helpful. As far as prior experience in Peachtree or Quickbooks I don't think the carry over is real beneficial. As far as handling the work load in the interim I don't have any suggestions except to cross train someone. Therefore, if this happens again you will at least have someone to step in until you can hire a new person.

I would try to get a temp-to-hire. I would get them asap and hopefully your current bookkeeper would stay long enough to train them. A good general accounting background should be what you would need for now, preferably someone with at least two years experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger on any computerized system. That should buy you some time until you find a full charge bookkeeper. The tutorial on the "Clients and Profits" web site (http://www.cnp-x.com/Support/tutorial/START/Intro.html) is a great training tool and then let them use the manuals. It is also a great refresher for experienced users.

I anticipate it will be difficult to find someone with C&P experience, especially for part time work. We try to hire an experienced bookkeeper-type and then train them in C&P. After you find that person, I suggest you contact C&P for their list of trainers. You can either send your new person to C&P for training or you can have a trainer come to your offices and train onsite. Good luck!

Keep in mind we provide a help wanted and job wanted bulletin board on our website. Only those using C&P or with C&P experience can post to this board.
It can be found at http://www.cnp-x.com:591/jobs/default.htm

Our accountant did not have prior C&P experience. I simply provided him with a manual and gave him the web site address. He called C&P direct and utilized their web site tutorials. It's been great from my perspective.

I agree with Jill regarding on-site training. We had someone come to our office and paid less than the travel plus training costs of going to C&P and received training that was completely related to our company.
We found our trainer by looking up the ones listed on the C&P web site.

I started with my company one year ago. I did not have experience in C&P but in ACCPAC and MAS90. I am part time and picked up the program fairly quickly. It is very user friendly.
