PC MAC Lan Problems

10:13am Mar 15, 2001 PST (#1 of 6)

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems accessing their Client and Profits database using PC Maclan network software. Specifically while using an iMac. Our PC's don't have a problem at all, but the iMac freezes up frequently at the point of accessing the database after opening the C&P application. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

We run a hybrid Mac/Windows network which has two iMacs on it. We are also using PC Maclan, and in general have no problems accessing C&P with it on the G4s and PCs. We have had issues with the iMacs freezing, but that was happening long before we installed C&P. What's even cooler is that you can't restart an iMac without unplugging it from the wall, because the power button can't be used to shut it down when it locks up. That can't be good for the hard drive.

Can you tell me where your database resides? Are you in a true server environment, or does it reside on a user's hard drive? Do you use any other network software such as NT or Appleshare IP? Also, how many computers are on your network?

Thanks much, Carolyn Lorence

The iMacs do have a reset button located next to USB ports. It is mark with a triangle. You shouldn't have to power down by unplugging all the time.

Also, you may want to unplug and replug your USB keyboard/mouse before restarting. I have had several cases of the USB bus halting and by resetting it I don't have to restart so much.

I'm aware of this; they just won't respond.

Tell me about it. :-)

Press and hold that power button on the front of the iMac for 8 to 12 seconds. That ought to shut it down. If not, you probably have a USB problem (using Epson printers? 3rd-party trackballs?) or something else configured wrong in your System Folder.
