We are currently looking to replace our color printer that we are using in our Art Department and were curious to know what others are using or having good luck with. We've been using a QMS Magicolor 330 that prints on 13' x 19' (12' x 18' full bleed) paper, but we are continually having problems with it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

We have the same printer (QMS Magicolor 330) and are currently going through the same problems with it. We now have a demo of the Minolta 911 in our office and are trying it out. Does anyone else have it? Minolta says they will give us a discount on the price of the 911 equal to the value of the QMS because they now own QMS. That is the reason why we are looking at it.
Any comments on this printer or the QMS?

Tektronix Phasers are excellent; we've had one since August 2000 and have had no problems with it. Toners last much much longer than any Epson printers!

We just purchased a HP8550 color printer for our creative department and have not had any problems with it. We also have an HP8550 color printer which we have had for over 2 years with out any major problems.

I highly recommend a Tektronix (Xerox) Phaser.
We use the Phaser 780, but I believe the 790 is the more recent model in this class.
Prints to tabloid plus sizes, excellent color, good paper handling, and good support from Xerox.

disclaimer: I o not work for Xerox, nor would I profit from you buying their printer :-)

We use the Minolta 911.
We like it except for the color -- not exactly correct when talking PMS colors. Not bad, though.

We also have a Tektronix (a Phaser 780) and all seems to be well with it. We've had it for about a year now. A nice bonus is their toner recycling/disposal program for the environmentally friendly.

The HP 8500 has been pretty good, very reasonable. Does 12x18's nicely, even did some manual duplexing with mixed results.

Ditto, we use a Phaser 780 and it has been very reliable. Also, before you buy, I would recommend comparing toner costs and expected usage. Toner costs can run you an arm and a leg!

I have nothing but good things to say about the Tektronix and would recommend it in a heartbeat.
The current version of it is the Phaser 790. They've increased the RAM, built-in a 6Gb hard drive to store jobs, and it will now automatically duplex (double-sided) print with registration to within 1mm.
Before we bought the Tektronix 780 that we have, we looked at the QMS Magicolor and whatever the HP color laser was circa 1999, and the color on the Tektronix blew everything else away on our test photo (a client-provided pepperoni pizza photo). From five paces, you couldn't tell the Phaser 780 output from a Matchprint.
I'd recommend them whole-heartedly.

We use a Minolta 900 fiery RIP color copier/printer. The only way to go if you are in a production environment or tight deadlines.

We also use the Fiery RIP color copier/printer. I second Sonny's advice/opinion.

If you are in need of high performance color printers I would suggest you look at the program offered by http://www.freeprinters.com.
They also provide free on-site service. You only buy the supplies.
