Adding PDFs to C&P

11:20am Apr 16, 2001 PST (#1 of 7)

Does anyone know if there is a way to attach PDF files to our C&P info. (like vendor specs or finished artwork)? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The best investment I've ever made was $380.00 - the full version of Acrobat and Distiller (4.0). We can send invoices, statements and reports via email using PDF format. Clients get these documents now in seconds. I would imagine, though that attaching PDFs through C&P would require programming enhancements - something for your C&P wishlist.

I would second the Acrobat 4.0 purchase. We send PO's, estimates, and invoices all by PDF. Quick and easy to set up and use.

We have been looking for a good method of employing Acrobat with C&P. We own several copies of the full version, and have successfully used them for client proofs, estimates, etc (not from C&P). The biggest obstacle so far has been looking for a method of putting our logo on various reports generated from C&P. Since the abilities of C&P to do this is focused on printed material, we have had to look at other methods to add graphic elements to the PDF output.

I found that the Adobe PS printer can effectively place graphic elements on a page (Watermark feature) given an EPS file to do it with. . . but only on the Mac platform, the windows print driver if far more limited. Here the only solution we have been able to do so far was to manually cut and paste using the Acrobat application (not the most ideal of solutions). Also I have discovered that the Adobe PS print driver has broken under Mac OS 9.1 (another reason to keep our Macs at 9.0.4)

If anyone else has found a better solution, I would love to hear it.

If you have PDF 4.0 or 5.0 installed correctly, you should be able to select a printer called "Create PDF File". Then C&P output goes to that process instead of your printer, creating a exact copy of what would be printed -- including your logo if it is part of C&P.

We choose PDF Writer from the chooser and print the file to disk. If we need to add a logo or letterhead, we open the PDF in Illustrator and drop in the logo, then save back as an Acrobat PDF. This can be emailed to and printed out by the client.

We have successfully done this already, but so far the logo has been a stopping point because on the PC the best resolution you can get is 72 dpi (with cross-platform sharing off) also in our case, our letterhead includes text and a colored bar that goes across the top of the page. Strangely enough, the bar can be printed on the PC platform (the bounds of the box do not seem to be a limit), but not on the Mac platform.

The reports in C&P work fine if you are printing them onto [paper] letterhead, but in the situation of the PDF, the graphic elements relating to the letterhead must some how be combined with the output of the C&P printout.
