Scheduling Program

03:33pm Oct 30, 2002 PST (#1 of 4)

For the past several months, my company has been looking into various scheduling programs to help us better manage our many meetings, conference calls, conference rooms, etc. (We are 25 person agency all on MACS.) We have honed in on two programs: Now Up-to-Date & Contact and Webevent. Both are around the same price (3K) but the latter is a bit more attractive, given that is is web-based (and therefore accessible from anywhere) and transmits via our current email program. I wondered if anyone out there had heard, or even better, was using either one of these scheduling programs and if you could recommend them? Or, perhaps there is another affordable MAC-based program out there?

We use both... but primarily NOW. It seems ok. It can be flaky, but we have 25 people on the system. We also have it web-enabled, which works quite well. We have categories for all sorts of resources... conference rooms, company cars, portable projectors etc... its great. When you schedule an event you simply select a resource you need for the event and it all gets locked in to the scheduling system. Then when someone else wants to use the resource they are prompted that the resource is already scheduled for use at that time. Works the same with staff. The system can flake out, but then what system doesnt. We have heard that Webevents is a better way to go... so you may want to investigate further.

We have also researched this a bit. One other program that was looked at by some of our staff was MeetingMaker. I believe the cost was $1,600 for a server and 10 user pack. It would probably be in the same price range as Now Up-to-Date. We did have the NOW program at one time, but the programs are only as good as your employees commitment to using them! Good Luck!

I have not heard of Webevent, however, we have been using Now Contact & Up-to-date for about a year. We are very satisfied with this program. We needed a group calendar (very badly) and in addition, wanted a new database program for new business....this solved both problems very well. I am not very technical so if you have any detail questions I will be happy to pass them on to someone who can answer them.
