Adding PDFs to C&P
Does anyone know if there is a way to attach PDF files to our C&P info. (like vendor specs or finished artwork)?

Appleshare IP Upgrade Problems
I have just moved our C&P Data File from a Shared G3 MiniTower running ASIP 6.1 and Mac OS 8.5.1 to a Dedicated G4 running ASIP 6.3.1 and Mac OS 9.0. My users (14 of them, all Mac, using C&P 4.04) are reporting odd behavior when using C&P since the move. They say (I'm trying to get more precise descriptions) that the system pauses when they are tabbing through fields.

Archiving Files
I am looking for help as to which program/database is the best to use to archive files. Our files containing photos, artwork, etc. are now all on CD. We would like to input this information into an easily accessible database.

Attaching Artwork / PDFs to C&P
Can you attach a finished piece of artwork to a C&P job ticket? C&P gives you the name of the job, but how many times have you wondered - is this the correct job?

Backing Up
We are a 10-person agency who specializes in print. As such, we generate a huge number of large computer graphics files and are struggling with our extremely complicated back-up system.

Backup Device Recommendations
Until recently, our daily backups have been handled by a Sony data drive on digital data tape via Retrospect software. We began having problems last month with messages of bad media, dirty heads, etc. so we used a cleaning tape, put new tapes in the rotation, and when that didn't work, bought another Sony backup drive (supposedly never used) at a discounted price, and we continue to have the same problems of not recognizing the media.

C&P 5.0.1 vs. Mac OS 10.2.5
Ever since updating C&P to 5.0.1 several (but not all) of my Mac OS 10.2.5 users are not able to access our database. C&P tech support stated that I need to start managing the database from a Mac 10.2.5 machine to make sure the permissions stay the same.

C&P 5.0.2 Updates
Does anyone here have a copy that they can email me? Of course It isn't available online here anymore and when I called I was told they don't have a copy.

Changing Servers
Our agency has been thinking of changing from a Novell server to a NT server. We currently have 23 PC users and 6 Mac users on our system. We have heard all positive things about NT and nothing negative. Has any one experienced or heard anything negative about the NT server?

Converting from PeachTree
We will be converting from Peachtree to Clients & Profits Classic today. Any caveats to be aware of? Any advice on transferring balances?

Cross Platform Mail Systems
Many of us are shops with both Macs and PCs and we're evaluating cross-platform e-mail and groupware systems here. What kinds of e-mail systems (clients and servers) do you use that have similar Mac and PC capabilities and cross-platform compatibility? Shared calendaring? etc?

Cross-Platform Issues
I want my studio people to have access to C&P in order to enter their own time. They are all using Macs and the rest of us use PC's. If anyone on a PC is in the Database, the Macs receive a message saying that "This file cannot be opened by Clients and Profits".

Custom Intrduce Yourself Graphic
We run C&P tracker on a Mac/PC environment. Database is on a Windows 2000 server. The users like custom introduce Yourself graphics. Problem is if I set the graphic on a Mac, it only shows on a Mac, if I set it on a PC, then only the PC users can see it.

DAT Machines
We are about to purchase a DAT machine. Is it worth while to buy?

Database Repair / Maintenance
We've had C&P Classic 4 installed now for about 5 weeks. Our shop has 8 Macs and 3 PCs, our server is a G4-400 running ASIP 6.2. We seemed to have to repair or service the database file almost every 3 or 4 days. I'm curious about what others typically experience regarding daily/weekly/monthly "maintenance".

E-mail Systems
Could I have your input on the type of email system you use. We are on Microsoft Exchange server with Microsoft Outlook 2000 as a client.

Free Block Structure Damage Weekly
We have experienced free block structure damage sometimes multiple times a day. We have 5 users on the database, 1 WinXP, 2 Win98 and 2 MacOS X. We've gone through the supplied Database Guide, but still have problems. We are currently hosting the database on a 9600/350 running AppleShare IP 6.3 and this seems the most "stable".

Hardware Requrements
I wanted to ask the User Group members who are currently doing production and design work on a PC, what are your baseline requirements for hardware? Processor speed? Memory?

Homogenouse MacOS 9 and MacOS X Clients
My scenario, I have 95% OS 9 clients and 5% OS X (10.2.2) clients. We upgrade to C&P Pro 4.10 and it does not work on OS X. Our OS X clients get an error "unable to open larsen.db1".

Icons Under OS X
We have a couple of test system that are running 10.2.5 and C&P has lost their icons. They appear as generic application for the player and a generic document Icon for the Clients and Profits 4.10.

Has anybody had any problems with C&P on iMac?

Intermittent Lockups
I have posted this question before but not to this particular group. We have about 10 Macs and 40 Windows 95 PCs running Clients and Profits Pro 3.04 and attaching to a C&P .df1 file on a Novell 4.11 server.

Job Numbering in C&P: The Horror of Exceeding 1000 Jobs
Has anyone found an effective way to combat the way C&P numbers jobs after you exceed 1,000 jobs?

Mac OS 10.2 Server
Is anyone hosting their C&P dbase on a 10.2 server?

Mac OS X Server
OS X is fast, but are you publishing to Windows? We had tried it using samba, but found that we were prone to data corruption, and if a user crashed (or unplugged their box) while running C&P, samba would lock up, then OS X would lock up.

Microsoft Exchange
Advice, Inc. is a company running C&P version 4.02. Ever since we installed this new version we have had a problem with licenses for Microsoft Exchange.

New Color Printer
We are currently looking to replace our color printer that we are using in our Art Department and were curious to know what others are using or having good luck with.

ODBC
We have an application that we need to develop that will extract data from the C&P Pro 4.02 database and then manipulate it to the required format.

Office Setup
We are in the midst of upgrading our Macintosh computers and migrating to OSX. We currently use an Imac to hold the C&P database and we access it through an Ethernet network using AppleTalk.

PC MAC Lan Problems
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems accessing their Client and Profits database using PC Maclan network software. Specifically while using an iMac.

PC Remote Access
I have tried using WebDrive by Riverfront Software. It lets you map a remote drive as if it were a drive on your local computer. The office computer requires a freeware called "u-drive" that turns the computer into an FTP server.

PDFing in C&P Classic Through OSX
We are using C&P Classic 5.0.6 which is running in Classic under OSX 10.3.4. We have a copy of Acrobat 6 Standard on each machine.

Printing to a USB Printer

Remote Access

Remote Printing
I have a client just getting into Clients & Profits. We have set up an iMac to Timbuktu into remotely. The bookkeeper remotes into the iMac from a PC.

Restricting Users to Various Jobs
I am trying to determine how to restrict the user access for various jobs so that time cannot be misallocated (intentionally or not) to a job that the user is not working on. C&P needs the ability to restrict user's ability to enter time towards jobs that are currently open.

Server Suggestions
Currently, we are using a five-year old Mac 8150 with a 9 GB internal hard drive and 3 external SCSI hard drives for a total capacity of about 20 GB. The machine is running Mac OS 8.1, the highest it will support.

Server Survey
I'd like to know what other agencies are using for servers. We have a small cross platform network here with approx. 6 PCs (various OS: Win 98, 2000 and XP) and 10 Macs (mostly OS 10).

Setting Alerts in C&P
This question is in regards to setting Alerts for users in C&P. I have the Alerts set to Alert my staff (for example) when they are entering their time and a job is within 80% of its budget for time allotted.

System Manager & Advanced Reports Class
I would benefit from taking the system manager class and the advanced report writing class that C&P offers. Is anyone else interested in taking both these classes?

Training C&P Bookkeepers
We are just outside of NYC in Westchester County. Our bookkeeper has just given notice. We are just getting into C&P (5 months in) and need a person 2 days a week.

Trouble Printing Vendor Invoice Aging
I am having trouble printing the vendor invoice aging reports on a PC. Every time I print the report the first time it drops off some of the vendor lines.

Using Remote Access
Is anyone using Terminal Server NT (Remote Access) to allow MACs to work with C&P Pro? If so, are there any known problems or issues to be aware of?

Verify / Recover
We are a 10 person agency using C&P Classic 4.0. I am the business manager and am having to spend a lot of time combing through the active job tickets to check whether the "unbilled" total on the main job ticket window matches the unbilled total in the WIP window.

Which Printer to Use
We are an all Mac company and use HP 4050N printers over our AppleTalk network. I'm curious what printers other users are running. We are having some issues with C&P printing to the HP printers and are thinking of changing brands.

Windows 2000 - Service Pack 3
Some Windows 2000 users have reported problems opening a shared database from an AppleShare IIP server after installing Service Pack 3 .

Windows 2000 Server & Norton Utilities
In reading the "15 Tips for Preventing Data Damage" under #7, it talks about disk fragmentation and using Norton Utilities to find and repair disk problems. We have Windows 2000 Server and can't seem to find a version of Norton Utilities that will work with it.

Can you recommend pc and server configurations settings that are appropriate for Job Tracker?
