Using client projects

09:34am May 25, 2001 PST (#1 of 3)

Has anyone used "Client Projects"?

We seems to have a growing number of projects that usually start with a job number being opened called XXXXX whatever "!!!!!Development" Then, it splits into a dozen jobs within that umbrella job.

So i was considering opening the main job (as usual)...then giving it a project name....then was wondering if i can do "individual" sub-estimates for each 12 components....but still have the one job number????? I don't really understand what the benefits are of "Client Projects"! Do they have some post analysis benefits or something????

Or do I simply open 12 subsequent new job numbers, give each one an estimate, and hope like crazy that reconciling all of them against the "big picture bucket" at the end of the day WORKS???

Thanks

We also would like to have...

We also would like to have jobs grouped together. Since the printing specs can really apply to only one kind of product, it would be nice to group jobs under a single title (or allow different print specs for the different pieces of a single job).

Unfortunately, client Projects doesn't really help any with this.

Adding this feature to the wish list of C&P would be great!

Client Projects allows you...

Client Projects allows you to generate and print reports for all jobs with the same project name. That's about all I see it doing. I've never done, nor am aware of an umbrella job, with roll-up sub component jobs.

But - here's an idea you might consider:

First label all your sub-component jobs with Alpha-Numeric coding so they print together on the job list (JOB-001A, JOB-001B etc.) (If you have the automatic numbering set as a preference, you'll have to un-click that in the mean time.)

Then - use the billing status code field to enter a project code (assuming you don't use billing status code fields routinely as part of process). If you do this, you can pull a profitability report (snapshots>profitability>choose appropriate date ranges>billing status code) that gives you a consolidated accounting of all the jobs in the project.
