I am curious as to how many of you have a policy for cell phone expense reimbursement. Or do you perhaps pay a monthly allowance? If you have a reimbursement policy, I am curious as to that policy.

Back in the 90's, we supplied all of our staff members with a cell phone. The monthly plan covered a certain amount of minutes per month. Overage was either billed to a client job number if it was a job related call, billed to the agency if it was a corporate call, or billed back to the employee if it was a personal call. I never liked this policy as it was costly when you had an employee that "loved" that cell phone! At this point, only the principals of the agency have cell phones that are paid for by the company.

We pay cell phone use for the partners and for our production manager who frequently is out at press checks and client meetings. For another company I work for, we pay a cell phone allowance of $50 per month for sales people only.

Our policy is as follows for employees:
If you travel 5 or more days per month, a flat $30. will be reimbursed.
If you travel occasionally, less than 5 days monthly, the per diem is $4.75 per day not to exceed $30.
We also keep 2 cell phones for employees to check out for travel.
The principles are reimbursed 100%.
