How much does the Clients & Profits X upgrade cost?

Anyone who bought Clients & Profits 5.x after June 1, 2004 gets Clients & Profits X free. If you bought C&P before 6/1/04, click here for upgrade prices.

Will Clients & Profits X work with our existing database?

Yes. Any database from any version of Clients & Profits can be upgraded to Clients & Profits X. Before upgrading, you must first install Clients & Profits Classic/Job Tracker/Pro 5.0.6 OR use a special utility to prepare your database. Then there is a one-time data reorganization that runs automatically the first time a database is opened, which takes a few minutes (depending on the database size and speed of your hardware).

What are the major changes in this upgrade?

Clients & Profits X has a new OS X/Windows XP/Vista native architecture which makes it run faster and more reliable. The software has a brand-new OS X user interface with larger windows, context menus, and interactive tool tips. Clients & Profits X can print any report as a PDF or as an HTML page, as well as print an accurate preview of a report to the screen. It has a built-in web-based time card taken from the My C&P! web server, which allows users to enter time from any web browser. Clients & Profits X also includes an integrated Media Link for importing media buys from Strata, TAPSCAN, and SmartPlus, a new weekly time card, and many more smaller improvements.

Is anything missing from Clients & Profits X that we used in Clients & Profits 5.x?

The only missing feature from C&P 5.x is the Palm OS-based time card sync. Due to difficulties in the Palm sync software, the Palm OS-based time card may not be supported in Clients & Profits X.

How do we upgrade?

The upgrade process is similar to past upgrades, such as upgrading from Clients & Profits 4.x to 5.x:

After placing your upgrade order, you'll receive instructions for downloading the Clients & Profits X installer. First, have everyone quit Clients & Profits then make a backup copy of your database for safekeeping. Use the C&P X installer (for Mac OS X or Windows XP/Vista) to copy the new C&P Player X and C&P X application to each computer that's going to use it.

Clients & Profits X implements a web-based registration process to authorize each installation. The first time you open Clients & Profits X, you'll be prompted to register your installation (web access is required). Once your installation is authorized, you'll be prompted to open your database.

The first time you open your database you'll be prompted for a one-time data reorganization, which will take a few minutes (depending on your database size and the speed of your hardware). Once finished, everyone can connect to the database and get to work. Repeat these steps for any other database you use.

Is there a steep learning curve for Clients & Profits X? Will there be training?

No more than Clients & Profits 5.0. Clients & Profits X preserves the time-tested work flow and structure with the previous version, so, it's very easy to learn. New-user training classes for Clients & Profits X are available at the Clients & Profits classroom in Oceanside, California. On-site training is also available from our independent consultants.

Will we be able to use our custom reports?

Yes, but with some possible limitations. The Custom Reports writer is substantially different (and improved) over the previous report writer, but some existing reports may need to be recreated if they don't convert correctly.

Will Clients & Profits X run on our current hardware?

Since Clients & Profits X requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or Windows XP/Vista, it requires hardware that can effectively run those operating systems. So if your current computers can run OS X or Windows XP/Vista, they should run Clients & Profits X.

Can we use Clients & Profits X on our Xserve?

Yes. Your Clients & Profits database can be shared between Mac OS X and Windows Vista users from an Xserve, as well as any Windows XP or Vista file server.

What do we need to run Clients & Profits X with MySQL?

Clients & Profits Pro X (version 10.1 and later) now supports MySQL 5 Communitiy. The Installation Guide has step-by-step instructions for configuring Clients & Profits X for MySQL.

Will Clients & Profits X work with the My Clients & Profits! web server?

Yes. Clients & Profits X can share the database simultaneous with My Clients & Profits!, giving your remote users access to clients, jobs, estimates, schedules and traffic, change orders, purchase orders, and more from any web connection.

Will Clients & Profits X run on Mac OS 9?

No. Clients & Profits X requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or above. It will not run on earlier versions of OS X or any version of Mac OS 9. This means everyone in your shop who needs Clients & Profits must upgrade to Mac OS X before they can use C&P X.

Is it compatible with OS X Leopard?

Absolutely. In fact, it was designed and programmed to work in Leopard.

Is it compatible with Windows Vista?

Yes. In fact, it was designed and programmed to work in Vista too.

Why is it called Clients & Profits X? What happened to C&P 6?

Clients & Profits X is the new version of Clients & Profits 5; there were no interim upgrades. We named it "X" because it's best new feature is native compatibility with Mac OS X and Windows XP.

Is Clients & Profits X compatible with My Clients & Profits! 5.x?
